La Experimental
La Roca Estate and La Experimental – Specialty Coffee from Colombia, Planadas (Jorge Rojas)
In Colombia’s Andean region, in Planadas, Tolima, Jorge Elías Rojas was born into a family of coffee growers and began working on the family farm at an early age.
After losing his father as a child, Jorge quickly took on major responsibilities in the day-to-day operations of the farm. Driven by a profound passion for coffee, he gradually developed a highly technical and thoughtful approach to coffee cultivation and processing.
Jorge Elías Rojas: Master coffee grower and expert cupper
Jorge’s meticulous approach to coffee cultivation has earned him numerous accolades, including victories at the Planadas Coffee Auction 2020 and the Top Roast 2022 competition, as well as a prestigious third-place finish at the Cup of Excellence Colombia with a honey-processed coffee. His expertise in fermentation and processing has also contributed to the creation of award-winning coffees for other producers, further strengthening his reputation in the industry.
In 2010, he took a decisive step forward: he purchased a new property, La Roca Estate, situated at an altitude of over 1.800 meters, nestled among nature reserves.
It was there that he brought his vision to life, transforming the finca into an open-air laboratory: the La Roca Project was born.
At La Roca, coffee is not just about production, but about sharing knowledge.
As Jorge often says to his son:
“Coffee is not just a legacy. It is knowledge that is passed on.”
La Roca Project
Together with his brothers, Jorge launched the La Roca Project, an integrated model for managing the family’s estates in which each farm area is treated as an independent unit, with direct oversight of every stage of production.
The finca is divided into individually managed plots, where selected varieties — including exotic cultivars — are tested alongside advanced processing protocols, batch by batch.
It is through this approach that La Experimental specialty coffee was born.
La Roca State also creates value within the community
Jorge is deeply involved in the local community and actively shares his know-how with other producers through ASOPEP

His expertise in fermentation and processing has also contributed to the creation of award-winning coffees for other producers, turning technical knowledge into a tool for shared growth and collective development.
This is what makes La Roca fully aligned with our vision of the supply chain: not only high quality in the cup, but also relationships, expertise, and lasting value that remain within the community at origin.
For this reason, La Experimental joins our Limited Edition selection: not simply for its rarity, but because of the method behind its creation.
