Dambi Uddo: a specialty coffee with the highest Ethiopian quality level
Ethiopia. The motherland of coffee, with an ancient history and multiple faces, is to us a love declaration and an inexhaustible desire for discovery. We didn’t want to just have an Ethiopian coffee in our assortment. We wanted a unique coffee, with kaleidoscopic, exotic, lush shades: a journey in the cup, a long story to tell.
Yes, because Dambi Uddo is an organic, natural coffee and in respect for its place of origin, it is named after the forest where it comes from, in the Guji area, in the Shakisso district.
Guji Highland Coffee Plantation is a family run by Mr. Wadessa Yachisa, a tenacious man, moulded by the controversial history of his homeland.
In 1995 he was forced to abandon his studiesfor military service and later, at the end of the conscription, he had to start working in a gold mine.
Such a hard and exhausting job did not prevent him from realizing his entrepreneur’s dream: to open a coffee business. In 1999, with some friends he finally fulfilled his dream and his idea turned out to be a success.
Mr. Wadessa produces forest coffee at 2.140-2.160 meters above sea level, in a woodland area with a rich biodiversity. The complete coffee cycle is processed entirely by hand, from the picking to the drying on African beds.
It is an organic coffee, cultivated without the use of chemicals and preserving an agroforestry system, that is a land management system in which trees or shrubs are grown around pasturelands, promoting peasant agriculture without altering the natural biotype of the area.
The soil, the expertise in the cultivation techniques and the respectful hands that treat the green beans, bestowed upon the Dambi Uddo Specialty Coffee a peculiar sensory profile that obtained the top-quality score: grade 1, Q1. Of the four plots composing this extraordinary farm, we have chosen the Wadessa plot.
This coffee has an amazing taste: a twisting and deep aroma, with a surprising strawberry note, accompanied by an aftertaste of raspberry and red apple that enrich its sweet and fruity aromatic harmony.
